Translation and project management internship at Absolute Interpreting and Translations
The Story of a Successfull Intern at Absolute Interpreting and Translations Ltd, written by Sophie GIBRAT 07/09/2012
In the framework of my MA in English and Spanish translation and project management in the University of Lille, France, I decided to do a 3-month internship in Absolute Interpreting and Translations. After a one-year exchange in the University of Wolverhampton in 2009-2010 and an internship in a translation company in Birmingham in 2011, I became quite familiar with the region and really appreciated working in such an international and vibrant city.
Absolute Interpreting and Translations team taught me a lot. I was introduced to project management along with legal translation and interpreting. Every task was a new challenge as many new projects were coming in every day. From booking interpreters to assigning translations, translating blog articles and providing administration support to the staff, I felt part of the team from the first day of my internship. Indeed, the variety of tasks made everyday challenging and interesting. I had to deal with different clients on a daily basis such as local services like hospitals, GP surgeries or courts, which were booking interpreters, as well as solicitors or individuals, who were requesting translations. Part of my daily requirements were meeting the deadlines, satisfying every client’s request by making sure the best service was provided to them, as well as communicating effectively with clients, interpreters and translators.
On the whole, thanks to this internship, I benefited from a full and professional training regarding translation and project management. I reinforced my communication, organisation skills as my flexibility.
