What Exactly Is An Apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a hands-on training programme that you can start after completing your GCSEs.  This challenging yet rewarding programme allows prospective apprentices to experience what it is like to work full-time whilst gaining new skills and enhancing their industry knowledge. After successful completion, the apprentice will earn recognised qualifications. To begin an apprenticeship, you will need to apply for a work placement. You can either apply directly on job sites or alternatively, you can enrol yourself into a college and they will help you find a programme that is right for you.

What Can I Gain From An Apprenticeship?

Over the course of your apprenticeship, you will gain the skills, knowledge, experience and qualification required to progress in your chosen career.

There are, currently, three different types of apprenticeships that you can choose from, and these include:

  1. Intermediate, equivalent to five GCSEs
  2. Advanced, equivalent to two A-levels
  3. Higher, this can lead to a foundation degree

Every apprenticeship incorporates some aspect of studying and examination. This can take place either at college, or in the work place with an assessor who comes to visit you.  There are many opportunities available in a variety of industries, for example, here at Absolute Interpreting and Translations Ltd, we are a proud apprenticeships provider. We have a finance apprentice, a digital marketing apprentice and we are currently searching for a business administration apprentice to join the team.

Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship, you have many different paths that you could potentially pursue. For instance, you can progress on to a higher level apprenticeship, you can find a qualified new job, or you can go on to complete a degree. Regardless of the career path that you intend to follow, Absolute can help to get you on the right track.

Why Do We Employ Apprentices Here at Absolute Interpreting and Translations Ltd?

Mr Emal Haidari, founder and managing director of Absolute Interpreting and Translations Ltd., has been employing apprentices for many years. In spirit of National Apprenticeship Week 2020, we took the opportunity to ask Emal a few questions regarding his views on apprentices.

Our first question was, “Why do you employ apprentices instead of fully trained professionals?” Emal’s response was, “I decided to employ apprentices as I feel Absolute is the perfect environment to give them the opportunity to excel in their aims in a busy office environment. We have a lot of new, up and coming things going on here at Absolute, I like to give young people the opportunity to make a difference in the society with bright ideas and innovations.”

We then asked, “You mentioned making a difference in society, how else do you feel apprenticeships can make a positive impact on society?” He said, “Taking on apprentices helps to promote local employment, we are able to give a variety of opportunities to young people who are looking to gain work experience and learn at the same time whilst helping unemployment rates. We don’t just do this by hiring apprentices, this is also accomplished with our interpreter’s; this allows us to help with unemployment rates across the UK.”
